Polar bear, Ursus maritimus
Polar bear, Ursus maritimus

Watch Lodge, Manitoba, Canada
We visited Watchee Lodge in March, at a time when the mothers leave their dens to walk, with their cubs, to the Hudson Bay to hunt. We were travelling cross the tundra in an old Bombardier, tracked vehicle that was pretty smelly and uncomfortable. The polar bear would wal for a mile or so and then find a small stand of trees to rest up and this would be our opportunity for photography. This was taken on our first afternoon, it was a magical setting.

Taken on Fuji Velvia slide fil, exposure details not recorded.
